Comfort Food Event

Making "Comfort Food" at LIFT April 18
“Thy loving kindness is better than life.” Psalm 63:3

April 18: Comfort Food
We began our spring LIFT event with prayer and devotion. Following that Char Graybill demonstrated making home-made bread and each lady filled a colorful jar of “Love Soup Mix.”

Lori shared from Psalm 63. “Thy loving kindness is better than life, thus will I praise thee.”
- Changes can be overwhelming and cloud our view of God’s loving kindess.
- “Pitty Pies:” Sometimes we can fill one pie shell – sometimes we can fill a bakery truck full of pies!!
- It’s not easy being a Christian lady but we need to remember that “our soul follow hard after thee.”
- We were encouraged by Lori’s words and the words of another mother that shared from an experience recently in her life where she felt God’s loving kindness.

Thy Loving Kindess Is Better Than Life

Many mothers added their helpful hints
 to the bread making demonstration.
Char Graybill shared an old family recipe for Home Made Bread.
- The smell of baking bread is very comforting
- Home made bread is healthy and delicious
- Making bread speaks of a kinder, warmer time of life

Helpful hints:
- If possible, use a bread machine to kneed the bread, then transfer to baking pan.

Home made bread speaks of a
kinder, warmer time of life.
- It is best to use bread flour. You can keep your flour in the freezer. Test to see if your flour is good by tipping the bag sideways, if you see webs, it’s time to discard it.
- To kneed the dough: pull over, punch down, turn, repeat – “Fold and Turn.” Kneed for about 5 minutes. The dough should be stretchy. Do a “thumb test” if you press your thumb in the dough, the mark should go away.
- For faster rising: You can let the dough rise in the oven for 1 Hour at 150 degrees
- If the top of your bread gets dark, you can put foil on the bread for the last 10 minutes.
 - Make wheat bread by substituting 1 CUP bread flour with 1 CUP wheat flour.

Comfort Food - April 18

This “hands-on” project will have us assembling “Soup in a Jar”. Then Char Graybill will give us some pointers on making homemade bread. All ingredients will be provided without charge.

Comfort Food Being Made at LIFT April 18
As wives or mothers, our hands can become very busy. You will get a helping-hand in the kitchen by preparing a "Love Soup Mix" and learning some pointers on making homemade bread this Wednesday, April 18, 9:00am -11:00am.

If you've ever burnt supper, melted a bowl, or spilled milk all over the floor, then you'll have something in common with the other women that met at LIFT. We are wives and mothers that join to support and encourage each other in a Christ-centered environment.

Free childcare is provided. LIFT is held at Lost Creek Mennonite Church, Mifflintown. http://www.lostcreekmennonitechurch.org/
